Silicon Valley to hold 1st annual Iranian Film Festival

Silicon Valley in the US is to host the 1st annual Iranian Film Festival.

Silicon Valley in the US state of California has scheduled to host the 1st edition of an annual Iranian Film Festival.

The event organized by the Iranian Federated Women's Club (IFWC) will screen some of the greatest works of modern Iranian cinema in Silicon Valley on March 12, 2017.

The films to be screened at the event are ‘Atlan’, ‘Ice Water’, ‘The Buffalo’, ‘Oblivion Season’, ‘Azar, Shahdokht, Parviz and Others’, and ‘The Sinners’.

‘Atlan’ is the story of Ali, a young horse trainer who plans on using the prize money from his award-winning horse Ilhan to pay for his wedding. But when unexpected problems arise, Ali needs to fight for Ilhan and for his own future.

The film highlights the importance of horses in the life of Iranian Turkmen, where horse races are often highly significant social events.

‘Ice Water’ is a short film that tells the story of an old man whose life is closely tied to an endlessly repeating cycle of collecting water from melting ice, and making ice from the collected water.

‘The Buffalo’ is about a tragedy that strikes a couple, Shokufeh and Iman, when their plan to go abroad is cut short by Iman's accidental drowning in a lagoon. A diver called Bahram the Buffalo is assigned to find Iman's body and a relationship begins to develop between him and Shokufeh.

‘Oblivion Season’ depicts a woman who starts a new life by marrying her loved one but leaving the shadow of her dark past is not as easy as it seemed before. Suddenly she finds herself a prisoner and must earn her freedom back.

‘Azar, Shahdokht, Parviz and Others’ is about the wife of a famous actor who takes on a role as his playmate in his latest movie. Neither of them expects all the attention she receives by the critics and their marriage is damaged by her husband's increasing jealousy. The wife leaves home with their daughter, but when she returns the child to her spouse, the couple faces even more challenges.

‘The Sinners’ is a tightly plotted Iranian film noir. It starts on the streets of Tehran, where a beautiful woman who developed an independent streak during seven years in the US meets a violent end. Many people wished her dead, including the young lover she spurned, the married boss she blackmailed, the human trafficker she knew too much about, and her angry father who felt disrespected; but who could have sinned the most to have killed this woman?
